Copying Greek statues Romans were confronted with new static problems. The change of materials from bronze to marble necessitated the addtion of new pillars as part of the sculptures. They were disguised as tree stumps or quivers.
Taking the structure as the beginning of a sculpture, „mute servants“, normally the temporary holders of cloth, are taken seriosly in their forms by giving them the role of a holder and thereby shaper of new sculptures.
