Scoliosis corsets are molded from clay and dried unsupported in an upright position. This creates folds and cracks in the material. A climbing frame, a wall bar and a rope are used by the sculptures. Schematic drawings of spinal columns are carved into the wood. Blue curtains provide some privacy, just like in medical facilities.
Large prints on Plexiglas feature digital scans of black-and-white photos from a self-help book for scoliosis patients. I take my own body and its deviation from the norm, in the form of a spinal
curvature, as a starting point. I altered them with the Spot Healing Brush, a tool in Adobe Photoshop, a program designed to create, edit, and enhance pixel-based images.
